Watch the Bridge of Flowers Road Race this Saturday

Bridge of Flowers 10K Race
Saturday August 13, 2011
Starts 8:15 a.m.

Our 10 kilometer Bridge of Flowers Classic was conceived and organized by Mike McCusker in 1979 as part of the Buckland Bicentennial. Mike McCusker, founder and course architect continues to help coordinate the race along with a very committed race committee. The foot race has remained on the same course since that first competition except for a few alterations. The adjustments include the necessary elimination of a cross country apple orchard section near Rand Road and the reversal of the Crittenden Hill loop for safety purposes. In the early years of the race, the runners actually ran across the Bridge of Flowers. However, in 1980 the Bridge was rehabilitated and the course was slightly altered & with construction around the Elementary School, the course once again altered in 1997. What has not changed is the beauty & charm of our village, the warm friendly people & the encouragement and financial support of our sponsors. Entry fees cover only 40% of the races's costs & without our sponsors financial help, this event would not be possible. We hope you will express your thanks to them by patronizing their business. As of 1991, the two mile fun run became known as the "Nathan Hale 2-MILE" with new emphasis on the high school athlete. "Nate" taught and coached at Mohawk High School for years & was one of the founding fathers of cross country in Franklin County. After retirement, he was active as a track & cross country race starter at Mohawk where he shared his genuine love of the sport with budding young athletes. We hope you enjoy the races & visit our friendly community...the shops, eateries and scenic sights. Looking forward to seeing you next year!
