New Mass Law regarding Oil Supply Lines!

As of September 30, 2011, all residential oil supply and/or return that have contact with the earth, concrete, or a floor surface, must be upgraded.  Unprotected oil lines are often buried and if a leak occurs and is undetected, it can be very costly to clean-up.

Oil lines installed on or after January 1, 1990 are most likely already in compliance.  If your oil line has an oil safety valve installed at the outlet of the oil tank or has plastic sheathing on the outside of the line, no action should be necessary.  Oil lines which run overhead, and are not in contact with the earth, concrete and or a floor surface, are excluded from the upgrade requirement.   Contact your oil technician for more details or visit the state web site at  www.mass.gov/dep/cleanup/laws/hhsl.htm

Franklin County, Mass Centers Open for Disaster Recovery

RECOVERY CENTERS

FRANKLIN COUNTY DISASTER RECOVERY CENTERS OPEN

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Disaster Recovery Centers are now open in Greenfield and Buckland/Shelburne Falls in Franklin County to serve those whose homes or businesses were affected by Tropical Storm Irene.

Representatives from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration, along with other agencies, are on hand to explain disaster assistance programs and help you through the recovery process.

The Recovery Centers are open at the following locations:

 GREENFIELD

Green River Elementary School

Greenfield, MA  01301

 BUCKLAND/SHELBURNE FALLS

Mohawk Trail Regional High School
26 Ashfield Road
Shelburne Falls, MA  01370

The centers will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, until further notice.  Additional disaster recovery centers are expected to open throughout the declared counties.

If you have damage or losses as a result of the tropical storm, you are encouraged to register with FEMA before going to the recovery center. You may register by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585(TTY) for people with a hearing or speech impairment. Help is available in most languages. Registration also can be completed online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or using a Web-enabled mobile device or smartphone at m.fema.gov and follow the link "apply online for federal assistance."

West County Relief Fund - Make a Donation!

Shelburne Falls Area Business Association Organizes West County Relief Fund

The Shelburne Falls Area Business Association (SFABA) with the support of the Central Connecticut River Valley Institute (CCRVI) has established the West County Relief fund to receive funds from the public to be used for relief from the damage caused by Hurricane Irene. Funds will be given out to individuals, families, and businesses to fill needs not met by funds from Federal, State and non-profit sources. Funds raised will be distributed by a committee established by the SFABA.

Donors can make donations (please make checks payable to West County Relief Fund) at any branch of the Greenfield Saving Bank, WHAI, McCusker's Market, Mocha Maya's, Keystone Market, and other area businesses.) Checks made out to West County Relief Fund may be mailed to CCRVI, 6 Warren Court, Shelburne Falls, MA, 01370, to the SFABA, PO Box 42, Shelburne Falls, MA, 01370.
